MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP SURVEY

Thanks for the great response to the Championship survey. While this year did not pan out ideally as the trial for the new divisions with many players unable to play all 4 rounds in 3 of the divisions, the overwhelming majority of members wish to return to the previous grading system for future championships. The playing format that was the most popular with voters was a return to the 2-weekend format over Saturday, Sunday, Saturday, Sunday. It is likely that these 2 weekends will be in May, not on long weekend or mothers’ day weekend.

MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP SURVEY

It’s been great to see some good fields so far for the men’s championships. The revised format using Net Scores to determine the Masters’ Champion has provided a lot more interest and some close scores promise to provide an exciting finish over the final 2 rounds.

We apologise for the 1stround coinciding with the Labour Day long weekend, and this will change next year.

We wish to get members’ feedback about the schedule of next year’s championships. Three options have been proposed:

  1. Over 4 consecutive Sundays as per last 2 years.
  2. Over 2 consecutive weekends; Sat, Sun, Sat, Sun.
  3. Over 2 consecutive Sundays, then Sat, Sun on the 3rdconsecutive weekend.

Voting forms will be available at the bar from 19/5 till 3/6 and most voted-for option will be trialled next year. If you wish to provide feedback regarding the new divisions introduced this year, please do this on the bottom of the form.

COURSE WORKING BEE

SAT 2nd JUNE @ 7 AM

To continue work on the sandboxes.

FOOTY TIPPING

Nomination money is now well overdue. If you have not paid, please get this to Lester by end of May.

MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS

These are well underway. Due to the low number of nominations in the pairs, Craig has extended the first-round deadline to the end of May. It can be tricky to find a time that suits 4 players, particularly with championships underway, but please try and have these matches completed by then.

CANCER AWARENESS “DRESS IN PINK” DAY NOW 7/7

MOTIONS PASSED AT MEETING 6 MARCH, 2018

The Committee was thrilled with the response from members to the 2 motions that had been proposed at the February meeting. Both motions were passed at last night’s meeting. The motion concerning the auditor was passed unanimously. The motion concerning men’s championship divisions was passed 18 for the proposed change, 11 against. This will mean that A1 Grade will be up to 5, A2 Grade 6-12, B Grade 13-19 & C Grade 20 upwards. The Match Committee will welcome feedback from members at the conclusion of this year’s championships concerning the changes.

What’s Happening at the Club

SOCIAL GROUPS

We have several Social Groups booked in for 2018. The dates are listed on the whiteboard at the end of the bar. As these are a valuable source of income for the Club, please see Dave Moffett if you can help him with catering on any of these dates.

JUNIOR GOLF

With a little additional advertising, there has been a fantastic response to the weekly sessions offered to juniors at 3.30 on Thursdays. If you are able to give an hour of your time to assist Steve, your help would be very appreciated. Our juniors are the future of our Club and our game.

2018 FIXTURE BOOKS

Fixture books have been finalised and are available at the Club. Thanks to those who advertised and all who sponsor days throughout the year.

HONOUR BOARDS UPDATED

All honour boards were updated at the end of 2017. Thanks to Captain Craig for organizing this task which required compiling several years’ entries.

COURSE WORKING BEE 2/2

A huge thank you to all who worked hard in the rain to get the course looking great for B.V.C’s.

Next working bee will be in a few weeks to work on the sand bays that were commenced last year. Date T.B.A.

AGL ELECTRICITY DISPUTE

The Committee is pleased to advise that this dispute has finally been resolved with an amount of $14,491 refunded to the Club for incorrect tariff charge on the Brown Street meter since 2008. This money, together with the sale of 4 of our gaming licenses, has been used to reduce our overdraft to avoid monthly interest and quarterly overdraft charges, saving the Club approx. $2,700 per year.

 COURSE EQUIPMENT REPAIRS

This year we have had repairs to the green’s mower, rough mower and minor repairs to the pump. We have also undertaken major repairs to the automated watering system. This was well overdue and should free Tony from hand-watering during periods of extended dry weather to spend more time on course maintenance.

 DISABLED ACCESS & TOILETS

We have run into some stumbling blocks with this project, mostly concerning fire regulations. The Committee is working hard to comply with national regulations and ensure that this project is able to move forward. Hopefully requirements requested by Council will be submitted in the next fortnight so that we are able to commence work on this project soon. Once we have approval from Council, plans will be on display in the Clubhouse. The Club wishes to acknowledge the Gambling Community Benefit Fund for providing the funding for this project and also members Kev Cook & Gary Cooper & our good friend and Past-President Les Newton for their very generous offers of in-kind labour to ensure the job is completed.

We also wish to acknowledge all those who have assisted with the repairs to the septic tank as required by Unity Water, particularly Les Newton & Gary Cooper.

TEE SIGNAGE

The Committee would also like to acknowledge to members the generous contribution made by the Somerset Regional Council Community Assistance Grant towards the cost of the Tee signage that was erected last year.

BRISBANE VALLEY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Fantastic to see so many representatives from Kilcoy compete in the first round of the Championships. Good luck to all for the remaining 2 rounds.

MARCH MEETING – GENERAL MEETING 6TH MARCH

The Committee has received further advice/suggestions concerning 2 motions that were passed at the Annual General Meeting that we feel it is in the best interests of the members to alter. If members are in agreeance, we are hoping to avoid having to call a Special General Meeting, by making our March meeting a general meeting and giving all members the opportunity to place a proxy vote

  1. Motion passed at A.G.M. concerning Men’s Championship Divisions: A Grade up to 9, B Grade 10-17, C Grade 18 upwards, moved Greg Smith, seconded Tony Morgan. Carried.

Craig has since received a suggestion and has moved a motion that “Men’s Championship Divisions be: A1 up to 5, A2 6-12, B Grade 13-19, C Grade 20 upwards”, seconded . It was felt that this would be more advantageous for all divisions. We are asking members to vote on this motion and there will be forms at the bar for this purpose or we welcome attendance at the meeting on 6th March for input and voting.

  1. Motion passed at A.G.M. that Ward’s Tax and Accounting Service be retained as auditors for the Club, moved Janice Morgan, seconded Jodie Blunt. Carried.

We have received advice that local accountants Sunset Tax & Accounting have provided a very competitive quote for Kilcoy Bowls Club. The Committee is therefore wishing to request a quote from Sunset Tax and Accounting for the annual audit of the Golf Club books. Janice Morgan has moved that she obtain a quote from Sunset Tax and Accounting, and if their price is competitive with Ward’s Tax and Accounting that we appoint the local firm, Sunset Tax and Accounting as 2018 auditors, seconded Jodie Blunt.
